Call and they will give!

Two parents were not afraid of the word No! They made calls to various paint companies to see what they were willing to donate to our school. We ended up getting FREE paint for three different parts of the room.

These wonderful employees of The Warranty Group donated the money to purchase the white paint and their time to paint!

A local hardware store donated the Green Screen paint and our lovely parent volunteers helped me get it painted!

Phase 2: Next Up Floors and Walls

After cleaning out the room we had a real punch in the gut! The room was empty, but there was no way I could have students in there. The floors were uneven and the walls were not finished. It was pretty gross!

Luckily, I had my wonderful parent team! They told me that they would help me figure out a plan on how to transform this space.

Through some creative fundraising ideas they were able to help

accomplish
this!

I forgot to mention that I talked my principal into letting us punch a hole in the wall.

The small hole ended up leading to the removal of an entire section so that my students can easily move between my classroom and our new space!

Phase 1: Makerspace Here We Come

Picture a 100 year old building with tons of little odd shaped rooms everywhere. One of those odd shaped rooms happened to be a 400 sq foot storage closet right next to my classroom. I had looked at this room numerous times and visioned a space for students. Last school year, I shared my vision with my principal. He thought it was a great idea and gave me the go ahead to try and make it happen.

During this past summer, I along with the help of some amazing parents, began to convert this space into our school’s new Makerspace.

First step CLEANING! We spent about three days cleaning out this room.

First EVER Blog Post...

Today is officially my first EVER blog post!

I know you all are saying get with the times. Sadly, I have been scared to start a blog due to the fact that I am not a very good writer. I have control issues and try not to put things out into the world until they are as close to perfect as possible. Having someone edit my blog seems crazy and extra time consuming. So I am just going to go for it! Please bare with my not so great sentence structure and/or grammar. I will try to write as succinctly as possible with lots of bullet points.

My reason for starting this blog is to document my process of creating a Makerspace within my school. I really have no idea what I am getting myself into with regard to blogging and/or creating this Makerspace, but I thought it's important to share my adventure and what I learn along the way.

Cross Your Fingers for Me : )
